Welcome, everyone! On behalf of myself, I want to thank you for stopping by.
A little bit about me. I’m a seasoned video editor and producer with decades of experience under my belt. It all started in 1997 in my Marketing 201 class. We had to be creative to present our final projects, so I thought, "Why don't I make a video!" Yes, in 2021, that's not particularly creative, inventive, or new—but in 1997, groundbreaking! No one made videos. So after a bunch of slides and the most innovative uses of the overhead projector, it was my turn.
Mind blown.
Everyone was talking about how Lisa Vohra made "a video." That's the kind of stuff people only saw in Hollywood. I ended up with a B (and only because I got extra points for my "original" presentation). It was fun being the only one doing this, but eventually, the rest of the world followed in my footsteps.
But lucky for me, I discovered my calling before it became mainstream (phew!), producing videos and documentaries as a freelancer for several years before landing a job with Voice of America.
My start: When I was an intern there in 2005, a friend told me that my goal should be to make myself indispensable. So every day, I went to work with that attitude. After making the world’s best coffee, I never just sat and waited for someone to tell me what to do.
During my second month interning there, I was in a meeting about a new contract we might get with a TV station in Indonesia. English television was given the task to do a “Day in the Life” pilot. Everyone had ideas, but as an intern, your job was just to sit there, take notes (and just hope that you didn’t put too much Splenda in anyone’s coffee!). But I had a vision, so I spoke up, and 20 minutes after sharing my ideas, my boss made me the project manager of this pilot and gave me the opportunity to showcase my vision.
Since then, I’ve worn just about every hat: video editor, producer, reporter, disrupter, line producer, and social media video producer, to name a few. During a two-year hiatus from working, I also managed to make a documentary about the first year of parenting, which you can find on my films webpage: momosophy101.com/
It's been a great journey, and I hope you enjoy some of the highlights.
